FishingQueensland is famous for its fishing and the Western Downs is no exception! With timbered creeks, stretching fields and waterways aflowin’ fishing in the Western Downs makes a great holiday. Make tracks through the life bloods of our nation, the Maranoa Balonne River Catchments, the Murray Darling basin and the Dawson Valley systems and see if you can’t hook a freshwater feast! The likely catch in the Western Downs is golden perch (yellowbelly), Murray cod, silver perch, Saratoga, spangled perch and catfish (jew). You don't need a license to go recreational fishing in Queensland; however some permits may be required. There are limits on the size, take and possession limits the type of fishing gear that can be used and closed waters restrictions. Recreational fishing in national parks, conservation parks and recourses reserves is allowed, but in some national parks, fishing is restricted to particular areas. Some areas may also be closed due to safety issues, so be sure to check with Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service before fishing in National Parks! Our fisheries resources are of great value to Queenslanders and it is everyone's responsibility to protect this precious resource. Please observe the rules and regulations of recreational fishing, other wise future generations will miss out on what our beautiful waterways have to offer.
